Firefighters of Shanklin Fire Station raised over £2,700 for the London Evening Standard Grenfell Tower Dispossessed Fund during a charity car wash event yesterday (Saturday).
Over 200 cars were washed during a 5 hour period in swelteringly hot and sunny conditions. The Island’s MP, Bob Seely, rolled up his sleeves and joined in with the car washing efforts for a time alongside local councillors Michael Beston and Chris Quirk.
Steve Apter, the former Chief Fire Officer of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, has praised the firefighters’ efforts. Steve, who has been one of the most senior officers on the ground in London where he now works said:
“Great to see the station where I started my career yet again doing all they can for others. Amazing team at Shanklin”.
