A festive community celebration is set for Saturday (6th December) in Shanklin, with live music, Nativity costumes and a range of family activities on offer.
Shanklin Brass Band will be performing on the forecourt of the former Methodist Church in Regent Street, where residents may also spot volunteers dressed in biblical costumes handing out invitations to take part in a Nativity scene.
The Nativity experience will take place inside the nearby United Reformed Church – the landmark building with the clock – where visitors can dress up and take photos using their own devices.
The church will be open from 10:30–14:30, offering a warm welcome with refreshments including soup and rolls for lunch. There will also be crafts, games, a toddler corner, a prayer tent, and gift bags containing free items for both children and adults.
The event forms part of the national Shine Your Light initiative, which will be rolling out across the country the following weekend and featured on Songs of Praise on 14th December at 13:15.
Organisers are encouraging everyone to bring friends, family and anyone who might benefit from a little Christmas joy.
