A selfish driver potentially put the lives of Islanders at risk after parking in front of a lifeboat station in Ryde today (Wednesday).
The black BMW 1 Series was found parked in front of 2 tractors which are used to launch Ryde Inshore Rescue’s lifeboats. One is marked in big, white letters with the word ‘LIFEBOAT’.
Unbelievably, a note left on the window of the vehicle gave a telephone number for the lifeboat crew to call if the vehicle needed to be moved. When called, the woman said she didn’t realise it was a lifeboat station.
The car was parked on the apron at Appley at the same time that 2 teenagers were pulled from the water just along the coast at Ryde Harbour. Thankfully, the lifeboat was not required on this occasion but if it had been then the launch time could have been seriously hampered, or possibly even prevented altogether, by the driver’s inconsiderate actions.
Ryde’s volunteer lifeboat crew have expressed their anger at the situation, which they say came as a result of the driver using the station for free parking.

What a d*ck
Surely if they can’t read a great big sign saying lifeboat then they shouldn’t be driving
It’s a BMW all drivers of these cars are renown for pig ignorance and disregard for others
I find Audi ‘weavers’ worse. Weaving at top speed in and out of the Motorway traffic to gain an advantage.
Well perhaps if she had been cautioned or fined then she wouldn’t do it again ,cant they paint lkeep clear on the road:-)
pure ignorance what do you expect bmw driver
It does say emergency vehicles only painted across the entrance
What a stupid selfish dozy bitch noticed the number plate oh dear
Just push/drag out way with tractor so what if it gets damaged,at least she left note with phone number so is not as inconsiderate like most BMW drivers.
Bloody ignorant tourists
People seem to park wherever they want.
In this case she was wrong, but thankfully a telephone number was left.
I would have thought the council would have put the yellow boxes there and keep clear signs.
Come on Bob, do something about this.
should have been towed away by police and driver made to pay large sum to retreive car ,if not collected in 2 days plenty of room in the crusher at cowes scrapyard selfish ignorant bitch
Again many people commenting under an alias ! This is a very serious incident life’s could have been lost driver need to be punished, road marking need to be improved. Stop hiding and support this lifesaving service
There’s nothing wrong with commenting under an alias as I myself do. The problem is the deliberate comments by some commenters designed to offend rather than debate. I have been the victim of abuse because of my distinctive name since primary school.
How could this idiot put lives at risk when just one tractor there could easily shove it out of the way?
I would do that in a heartbeat.
Again are people thick.
Just another case of the me me attitude. Think about what we are doing and be considerate!!!!
Well a considerate person would not be so lazy, and park there just to get a freebie. So yes they are thick.
car is insured ok
Not a local then
Should of wrote keep clear on her bonnet
Should just have driven the tractor into it.
Drive over it won’t park there again perhaps lifeboat crew should adopt the same attitude didn’t see it thanks to those guys for the good work they do
Driving test should start with an IQ test.
Better still – a psychiatric examination!
