Police have arrested, questioned and bailed a 39-year-old man as part of an investigation into a large fire at a block of flats in Shanklin on Saturday.
As first reported by Island Echo, up to 40 firefighters battled the blaze at the junction of High Street and Victoria Avenue throughout the early hours of Saturday morning, rescuing a 39-year-old man from a window.
Following a scene investigation by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and forensic officers from the mainland, the fire was deemed suspicious.
Hampshire Constabulary quickly arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of arson. He has since been bailed until 10th March.
A second man has now also been arrested on suspicion of arson and has been bailed until 13th April, pending further enquiries.
