A popular bridleway in Ryde will be closed from tomorrow (Friday) to accommodate works on Island Line.
Part of public bridleway R54, which runs alongside the railway line between Smallbrook Lane and the level crossing at the end of Rosemary Lane, is to be temporarily closed between Friday 29th November and Friday 13th December 2019 – although it will be reopened sooner if works are completed quickly.
Contractors on behalf of the train operator need to remove a bank alongside the railway line to improve visibility for train drivers. To do this they will need to have open excavations, machinery and materials on the bridleway, meaning it will be fully closed to the public while work is in progress.
To bypass the closed section there may be a need to use Smallbrook Lane, which should be taken into account when planning your routes, as this road can have a lot of traffic, with no footways or verges in places.
UPDATE @ 16:03 – The Isle of Wight Council have now confirmed that the works have been postponed and therefore the path will remain open as normal.
