VIDEO: The air in Rookley will soon be full of the heady aroma of freshly roasted coffee, thanks to The Island Tea & Coffee Co.
At the beginning of April 2017, the team at The Island Tea & Coffee Co. invested in a coffee roasting machine, which will bring the Island’s businesses some of the freshest coffee available.
With 35 years of coffee history behind them, roasting their very own coffee was the next logical step for The Island Tea & Coffee Co. Julian Tomlinson, who has a passion for a good cup of coffee, researched the art of coffee making, became a self-taught roaster, and thus locally roasted coffee was born.
Fresh is best when it comes to coffee. As coffee begins to lose its flavour between 7-14 days after roasting, choosing a coffee that is locally roasted, allows The Island Tea & Coffee Co. customers to consistently enjoy the best tasting and freshest coffee. It’s artisan coffee with next day delivery. Roasting the coffee locally, enables the company to be more reactive with specific flavours for the Island producing just the right amount for businesses as and when required.
Some of the first to take advantage of this new venture are the team at the Driftwood in Sandown. Owner, Sean, attended the launch on Tuesday (16th May) with his colleague Katie. Sean is a self proclaimed great lover of coffee and is keen to bring the freshest, most flavourful coffee to his customers. He said:
“With The Island Tea and Coffee Co. you get something produced on the Island that you can trust. It’s fresh coffee that is made locally and that’s what’s important. It’s great for us and our customers”.
With the Driftwood going through 2-3 boxes a week the coffee they receive from The Island Tea and Coffee Co. has been freshly roasted with in the last few days, rather than mass produced coffee that commonly reaches the customer at over 90 days post roasting.
There will be an opportunity for customers to experience the roaster first hand at ‘See it in action days’ on Monday 22nd May, Monday 5th June and Monday 26th June at their offices in Rookley. You can also see The Island Tea & Coffee Co. at the food theatre at The Garlic Farm on 16th June.
