Organisers of Rhythmtree Festival have announced that one of the UK’s greatest songwriters and his wonderful band will take to the main stage to headline a super Saturday line-up this July.
The Lightning Seeds will close the Saturday show bringing with them a hatful of hits to entertain the Island audience. Despite not playing the fame game like most of his Brit-pop contemporaries, Ian Broudie’s skill in writing and producing wonderfully catchy and uplifting songs that have more than stood the test of time has secured his reputation as
a truly great songwriter.
‘Marvellous’, ‘Lucky You’, ‘Perfect’, ‘Ready or Not’ and the greatest football song ever ‘Three Lions’ are all melodic mini-masterpieces and one of his earliest hits ‘The Life of Riley’, which was written for his son when he was just a toddler, now takes on an extra charm as Riley will be up on stage playing guitar alongside his Dad.
Warming things up for The Lightning Seeds will be the 12-piece Voodoo Love Orchestra who will be storming the stage with their glorious mix of funk, big band swing, Jamaican ska and Colombian cumbia.
When the main stage finishes the fun continues in the Didg Cafe with a very special set from Beans on Toast who, following numerous sold out headline tours and 8 albums, has developed a huge following with his quick wit and uniquely personal protest songs and love songs for the modern day.
Pete Holden from the Rhythmtree team says:
“This is a weekend produced entirely by Islanders and the support we’ve had from our Island audience over the past few years has really put us on the musical map. Word has spread that it is great event to play at with a lovely friendly and relaxed atmosphere and a really mixed audience of all ages and now many great acts want to come and play on our beautiful site at Three Gates Farm.
“The Lightning Seeds, Stereo MC’s and The Blockheads have more than 20 UK chart hits between them so as well as having the opportunity to hear great music from five continents and to catch the best of the Island’s homegrown talent there’s going to be more than ever before for our audience to sing along too.”
