Residents are objecting to plans submitted to the Isle of Wight Council for the erection of 20 new homes in the village of Whitwell.
Perry Properties (IW) proposes to build a total of 8x 2-bed homes, 9x 3-bed homes and 3x 4-bed homes on a 1.65 hectare parcel of land off the High Street. These would be a mix of houses and bungalows.
At a recent meeting of the Niton and Whitwell Parish Council planning committee, those living in the villages expressed their dismay at the proposals. It’s not just local residents objecting… Island Roads have officially objected to the planning application due to concerns over the access road to the new estate and a lack of parking. That said, a small car park would be created by the housing development which would also be for the use of those living or visiting the village.
A letter with details of the application has been distributed locally with the words “do not let this happen to our beautiful village” included.
Comments for or against the proposed development can be left via the official Council website until 31st January at https://publicaccess.iow.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=Q0Y7RCIQ07J00.

more concrete, less plant life, more houses, less plant life, more roads, less plant life – more carbon emissions, less plant life to soak it up.
more people, more rubbish, more pollution, more gridlock on the roads, with more pollution, more flooding and more demand on the environment.
less creatures around, less flowers for the insects and birds – we might as well just say f^^k it and concrete everything over and all live in a shithole.
What is it with this hell bent, endless, build, build build strategy – keep it up and eventually there will be nothing left to build on and no natural habitats.
Stop building effing houses and start creating more natural spaces, for tree, plant and animal life.Get rid of these developers that care nothing about the environment and are only interested in lining their own pockets.
IF, you hadn’t noticed, every time a person arrives into the UK, the land does not grow, nor does a house ‘magically’ appear.
Governments tell us such are ‘needed’ as we age, BUT don’t realise that non Brits are not immortal, and they too will age. Then what? Import the rest of the planet to wipe the other halves backside and spoon feed them soup.
End the first issue and reduce the second.
Pre mass immigration days the UK grew ‘organically’ THINK see it how it is, even if not PC to do so.
Don’t forget Labour said immigration was good for Britain.
NIMBYS
And just HOW many of the objectors live in houses which have been built since the original village was established?
Is this a case of objection by people who have moved into the village into ‘new homes‘ built, but object to ANYONE else buying a planned new home in a idyllic village??
I am against over development, but there are countless objections against planning applications AFTER people have moved to an Island Idyll’ location…
@James Rann - Digital News Reporter
endless building changes villages to large villages, which then become small towns and eventually the building in one area meets up with building in another area and it becomes a combined large town.
All new builds should be objected to, period and immigration should be shut down and no further people allowed to move to this small country until others leave or die.
We want clean air and countryside – stop building shite houses that add to the pollution and degradation of the natural environment.
And James Edwards, Just HOW many who want this will be gaining from ruining more countryside, more beauty either directly as in developers, and builders, or indirectly by selling more household goods and WON’T be living anywhere near the carnage they happily ‘inflict’ on others?
Quick, fill in Bob Seelys building planner. I am sure that will ‘curtail’ the building, NOT.
People have NO say, unless wealth developers who have certain councillors as friends..
The beauty of these small villages will diminish with the building up of new homes on the high street. You see this happen time again that additional large building projects changes the character of the quaint village to something else entirely.
I presume this development will be in parallel with a new fully staffed GP surgery for South Central Wight
The solution to stopping houses being built is to stop having children and stop mainlanders from moving here….
The REAL British cut the number to an average of 2.4 children. Then Labour AND all other Parties allowed in those who breed from puberty upwards, who have little regard for Western life and the rest of the ruination is history, which will sadly only get worse now, NEVER better as their numbers increase ever more.
We now need to outbreed them or be a lost proud race.
Too late…Dare I say it, the country should have listened to Enoch Powell…..
Whitwell doesn’t need more people. It’s no good for families as buses do not run into the evening for youngsters/ teenagers to get home. There is no shop anymore apart from the church one so where will those without transport shop etc? Nice pub though!
