PRISON OFFICERS TO TAKE ON NHS STAFF IN SPECIAL CHARITY FOOTBALL MATCH

HMP Isle of Wight will take on the Isle of Wight NHS Trust in a special charity football match at St George’s Park in Newport next month.

The event has come about to raise funds for prison officer Ben Rothwell, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2018 at the age of just 46.

After not feeling too well, Ben was sent to the doctors and following a number of tests was given the life-changing diagnosis.

Ben, his wife Charlotte, daughter Izzy and son Louie had only just found their dream home, which required some work. As a family they were going to upgrade the property but that hasn’t been possible as a result of Ben’s illness.

With colleagues feeling somewhat helpless, Amanda and Gary Sandison came up with the idea to hold a fundraising event so that everyone can help towards getting Ben’s home together as he and his family had planned.

Sadly, Ben is no longer working but he is receiving support from Mountbatten Hospice. It’s said he is a very popular man with the staff!

You can donate to the cause via JustGiving at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/paul-hemmett.
