Premier Inn have this week launched a new website to keep Island residents updated on the development of their brand new 100-bed hotel in Sandown.
It was almost 3 years ago that Island Echo exclusively revealed plans to demolish the Carlton Hotel on the Esplanade and replace it with a brand new, modern Premier Inn with Brewers Fayre restaurant. There have been a number of set backs to the project, but things are finally moving ahead following the demolition of the hotel at the end of 2017.
Work has now begun on remedial works to neighbouring properties which is expected to be completed in January next year. Construction firm Carter Lauren will then begin laying the foundations and carrying out piling works.
Premier Inn say they are hopeful that the hotel can be completed in late 2019 – but say that this is dependent on everything else going to timetable. It was initially hoped that the hotel would open at the end of 2017.
Once construction of the hotel has begun and they have a firmer idea of the building completion date, hotel owners Whitbread will set an opening date and begin the recruitment process. Some 65 year-round jobs are expected to be created with recruitment focused in the local area.
Plans for a Brewers Fayre to be included within the development have been scrapped – instead it will be a ‘Cookhouse & Pub’ chain, as previously reported by Island Echo.
You can follow the updates through Island Echo and at www.premierinnsandown.info.
