Police investigating a serious crash on the outskirts of Chillerton, which resulted in a motorcyclist losing his leg, have established that neither the car driver nor the motorcyclist were to blame for the accident.
Emergency services were called to Berry Shute between Chillerton and Billingham on the morning of 14th April this year following reports of a road traffic collision. The first crews on scene were met with a seriously injured motorcyclist after his machine collided with a Smart car emerging from a driveway on a left hand bend.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was called into action and airlifted the 55-year-old man to Southampton General Hospital. Unfortunately, the man’s injuries were deemed so severe he had to have his leg amputated.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit have now concluded that no one was to blame for the collision.
