Isle of Wight cyclist Rollo Dixon, of the NAUT Cycling Club & Race Team, took part in the VC Venta Cat 3/4 Road Race on the Crawley course near Winchester at the weekend. The first couple of laps were full-on and Rollo found himself stuck near the back of the bunch. But on the 3rd lap he moved right up towards the front of the peloton, feeling much more comfortable. Unfortunately, Rollo was caught behind a crash and decided to withdraw from the race to help direct traffic whilst medical staff attended to another rider. He then continued to the finish line to cheer the race home. Speaking about Sunday’s (14th April) event, Rollo has said:
“I’m a little disappointed. I felt rough to start with, but after a couple of laps I loosened up and managed to move forwards easily. We upped the pace, and quickly strung-out the bunch… “Not sure how I managed to stop and avoid the crash; I thought I was going to have try to bunny-hop it! For a split-second I considered rejoining, but when I saw the rider down I knew I had to stay. “As I said, I’m disappointed (I really like this race), but I hope the injured riders are on the mend very soon and look forward to coming back next time”.
