hmpisleofwightparkhurstA plan by a Muslim inmate at HMP Isle of Wight to take a prison officer hostage and escape Parkhurst jail has been foiled by vigilant staff after cell searches last week.

Detailed escape plans involving the kidnapping of a prison officer were discovered when the cell of the inmate was searched after intelligence was received by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

An Islamic State (ISIS) flag was also discovered during the search, prompting fears that the incarcerated individual is a terrorist sympathiser. The UK’s anti-terror Police and security services have been notified of the incident.

One fear of the prison’s is that the inmate planned to execute a prison officer, possibly by beheading.

The cells of those associated with the unnamed Muslim were also searched at the notorious Parkhurst prison, which once housed the country’s hardest criminals.

The MoJ say the incident demonstrates the effectiveness of its security measures.

The unnamed prisoner has now been moved into isolation whilst an urgent probe is launched.

In 1995, 3 prisoners escaped Parkhurst and spent 4 days on the run having hid in a shed in Ryde. In 2010, murderer Brian Lawrence’s plan to escape prison by helicopter was foiled.
