THE Summer carnival season kicked off on Saturday afternoon as a variety of schools and organisations took part in the Ryde Arts Parade, part of the wider Ryde Arts Festival 2012. 

Vibrant colours, extraordinary costumes and a buzz of excitement filled the streets of Ryde as the parade passed through the traditional carnival route, lined with thousands of residents and tourists enjoying the glorious afternoon sunshine.

Performers gathered at the town’s Simeon Street recreation ground to warm up and allow people to get up close and personal with the wonderful costumes before they set off on the parade at 15:00.
