OVER 30 RIDERS TAKE ON WIGHTLINK-WIGHT MOUNTAIN HILL CLIMBS CHAMPIONSHIP

Over 30 riders stepped up to the mark and pushed their bodies to the limit last Sunday when they competed in the Wightlink-Wight Mountain Hill Climbs Championship.

The event was comprised of 2 challenging mile climbs, the punchy ascent of Lynch Lane and the gruelling Brook Shute; the Overall Winner would be the rider with the best combined times.

With over £350 of cash prizes up for grabs there was an extra incentive to dig deep and there proved to be some fantastic times set on the day.

After the first climb up Lynch Lane there was only 6 seconds between the leader, George Corbin, and WLWM rider Kev Chant leaving everything to play for on the second climb of the day.

However, Islander Corbin, who now lives in Norway and rides for Fana IL Sykkel, pulled out an exceptional time of 2 minutes 39 seconds up Brook Shute which gave him a combined time of 5 minutes and 20 seconds, earning him the Overall Winner title and the £100 top prize.

Chant pulled out all the stops but had to settle for second place with a time of 5.37 and the £50 prize. Michael Hoare (Reflex/NAUT Cycling) took the third spot in a time of 5.58 and the £25 prize.

The IOW Triathlon Juniors were on top form again with Billy Williams powering home to take the top title. Henry Morgan finished close behind and 3rd place went to Lottie Van Der Helstraete.

The Ladies title went to Faye Faber (CycleCoach.com) with the fastest Vet rider on the day being Craig Wilson (Wight Tri).
