For the first time, English Heritage will open the doors at many of its finest historic properties across the country on Boxing Day – including Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle here on the Isle of Wight.
Taking its name from the Victorian tradition when servants and tradesmen would receive their ‘Christmas Box’ tips from their employers, this Boxing Day is the perfect opportunity to blow away the cobwebs at over 20 properties across England.
Liz Page, English Heritage’s Historic Properties Director, said:
“We hope that by opening a number of beautiful historic properties this Boxing Day we’re giving visitors an opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the calm after the storm of Christmas day where they can unwind and explore with their families.”
To carry on the festive spirit after Christmas Day, English Heritage will be running a competition on its Twitter account (@EnglishHeritage) from Thursday 19th December where the public will be able to re-tweet for a chance to win a range of great special offers: from 2 for 1 entry to any of our properties to discounts in the gift shop. These prizes can be redeemed at all sites listed below which are open between Boxing Day and 1st January 2020. Check website for participating sites before travelling as not all sites are open at this time.

O for goodness sake, can’t the staff have some time off with their families! If you haven’t been to Osborne and Carisbrooke by now – tough! This is just money grabbing!
I must add that the house itself will not be open!!! It is just the grounds and there is no reduction in price
Staff will be pressured to work, just because some bored sick dullards, likely travelled down, to stay with even duller rellies over Xmas, and can’t think of anything better to do, than peer at a cold, windswept and damp ruin, or gawp at a musty collection of junk in Q V’s marine resident.
