A one-way restriction on Briddlesford Road has come into force this morning (Monday) as the Isle of Wight Council re-open Lynnbottom tip with strict new rules.
Motorists can now only travel from the north (Wootton) towards Downend to enable a queueing area to be formed on the carriageway. Those coming from the South will need to divert via Long Lane and Whiterails Road to join Briddlesford Road at Wootton Common.
The enforced one-way restriction begins at the junction with the turn off to Havenstreet at Lynn Cross, enabling those travelling between Ryde and Newport via Blacklands Lane to continue to do so.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Lynnbottom will re-open at 10:00 today but no general waste will be accepted and only cars will be permitted on site.
In order to maintain effective social distancing measures, to protect staff and visitors, the Household Waste and Recycling Centres will limit the number of visitors within 30 minute periods. There will be 10 slots available per half-hour at Lynbottom and 5 per half-hour at Afton Marsh.
Residents can now book a time slot to go to the recycling centres (HWRCs) at www.iwight.com/hwrcbooking. Slots are available to book for up to 4 weeks in advance. Households can only book 1 slot within a 2-week period to ensure as many people who need to visit can do so.
The following limited number of items can be taken to the HWRC:
• Garden waste
• Asbestos and plasterboard with a permit ONLY (plus booking slot).
• Waste electronics and electrical equipment (WEEE) no larger than an under-counter fridge.
• Batteries
• Wood (man Made and natural)
• Hard Plastics
No vans, trailers or pickup trucks will be admitted in order to maintain flow of car-sized vehicle waste.

Should never have closed it.
Re-cycling could have been postponed for a few months, as we have had a hundred years of just burying our waste unchecked without coming to harm. A few more weeks would have made zero difference.
Council website says my postcode doesn’t exist so I’m unable to register!!!!
Best keep quiet, as you may not receive a council tax bill.
You can enter it manually it happened to me.
Bodge-It & Sod-It Strike again known to some as Island Roads so if you want to get to the tip from Arreton Direction you’ve got to drive almost in to Newport then double back on yourself or drive all the way over too Ryde & come in via Haven Street or Wootton then the council wonder why people fly tip their rubbish. Someone book a slot for the tip to take the Council there cus there a load of Rubbish
It’s a complete farce! If they’re only taking bookings why should there be a huge build up of traffic resulting in the one way system being used? Didn’t make any difference to them before when the queue was back past robin hill!
Ne
Smithy. Totally agree. You could get 10 cars inside Lynn Tip one behind the other. Stay in your car windows closed until you are called forward to empty your cars in bins provided. No sense in one way restriction what so ever. Why close have the road off with cones for a good mile when it’s a one way system. That road closed is senseless and could cause some one to loose their life.Do they close the road off when 8 or more dust carts turn up at the same time NO
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
General Waste breeds flies, rats and deseas so very soon we wil have serious problems , skips in villages and carpark for general waste pleases,or at least allow 2 extra bin bags outside you grey bin.
I wonder what you class as general waste? I haven’t been to the tip for years, no flies, rodents or diseases.
Separate your recycling I don’t have this problem family of 5. Food waste in the separate bin collected weekly. Cardboards and plastics. And General works well for us. Think you can order a larger wheelie bin if you produce a larger amount of waste.
I thought general waste was just like your normal black bags ifs you forgot to put them out?
Fair play to the IOW Council. This system works well. I went up there today and went in and out in 5 mins. I hope they continue this system forever.
why do tip lovers need a one way restriction
and why do the one way before 8am if the tip not open until 10
sodding control freaks
Because people turn up 3 hours before it opens its like a day out for them !!!
