NOVICE AND MASTERS CREWS COMPETE FOR NEWPORT ROWING CLUB AT POOLE REGATTA

Newport Men’s Novice and Women’s Masters crews competed at Poole Regatta last weekend. Conditions were good for coastal rowing. The Women’s Masters had Lexie Nestor-Powell making her Regatta debut, Lexie only started rowing last September. Unfortunately, the Men’s Junior crew was unable to attend due to a crew injury. Rowing in a straight final, the women’s crew stumbled at the start which left them a length down on the other crews. A good first half of the race kept them in contention, but despite a solid buoy turn, they lost ground in the second half of the race, finishing in 5th position. The Men’s crew had a close race in their heat with 3 crews vying for 2nd place. They ended up 3rd but qualified for the final. The final was also a close race, after a clash off oars at the start Newport had to work hard to stay in contention up to to the buoy turn, but faded in the final third to finish 5th too.
