There will be no train services on the Isle of Wight for 2 days next week as rail staff join colleagues from across the country in strike action.
Island Line workers have voted unanimously to strike between 00:01 on Wednesday 8th and 23:59 on Thursday 9th November. 80% of local network staff turned out to vote.
South Western Railway have confirmed that there will be no trains running between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin on either day, but bus replacement services will be in operation.
The strike is being carried out over concerns about the role of guards on trains in the future.
Andy Mellors, Managing Director of South Western Railway has said:
“This strike is unnecessary. We have repeatedly assured the RMT that we plan to keep two safety-trained employees on our trains. This is because we know that a second member of staff provides assurance to our passengers and ensures we have capable colleagues on board to deliver assistance or offer advice during journeys”.
