There’s a wealth of music choices in Ventnor and now jazz has found a home in the Ventnor Arts Club.
The excellent acoustics from its high vaulted ceiling, leather lounge chairs and deep and appropriately jazzy carpet make for wonderful musical evenings without noise bouncing off wooden floors and hard furnishings. It all adds up to a relaxed, sociable, musical evening out with friends with a fine range of wines, cocktails and food on offer as well.
Every two weeks on a Friday or Saturday as listed at www.ventnorartsclub.com, Island Jazz pianist and organiser of the very successful Newport Jazz Weekend, Jim Thorn is at the centre of a duo, trio or quartet playing a variety of standards, compositions and requests from the audience.
This Saturday 10th August, Jim is joined by Loren who sings a great repertoire of favourites and less known songs to Jim’s accompaniment. It is perhaps one of the most relaxed of the line ups hosted at the club and a good way to wind down after a busy week and, this weekend, before the mayhem of Ventnor Fringe and Carnival week.
Stephen Izatt of Ventnor Arts Club commented:
“We’ve hosted a wide range of music from contemporary singer songwriters from the mainland and overseas, cabaret artists, fantastic local talent like CHAMPS, Tallulah Smith, Beeno and the Django Reinhardt inspired Cat Skellington, and we have lots more to come.
“As we developed our programme, there was always a call for jazz and so it’s great to be able to respond with a regular night of such quality”.
