Commercial vehicles on the Isle of Wight have been the targets of a joint crackdown between Hampshire Constabulary, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and HM Revenue & Customs this week.
A large number of vehicles have been pulled over and inspected for potential misdemeanors including standard MOT and insurance offences, as well as more complicated issues such as tax evasion and specific regulations relating to commercial operators.
The Commercial Vehicle Unit was joined by both marked and unmarked cars in a number of locations on the Island.
Shockingly, a local taxi was taken off the road yesterday (Thursday) for having no tax, a bald tyre and no brake lights. The driver will now be making an appearance before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.
Island-based Police cars are not currently equipped with ANPR cameras meaning crackdowns such as these are turning up trumps.
