Bob Seely – who was re-elected as the Isle of Wight’s MP last week – has thanked Islanders for their support and has pledged to continue to deliver for the Island.
Last Thursday, 74,691 local residents (66.09%) turned out to vote in the General Election. 41,815 of those votes went to the Conservative’s Bob Seely. Bob secured the highest number of votes ever secured on the Isle of Wight by any candidate and the second-highest Conservative vote in the country.
He won the election with a majority of 23,737 over Labour’s Richard Quigley.
Speaking about being re-elected, Bob has said:
“I would like to thank all Islanders who came out to vote last Thursday in grim weather conditions.
“It is an absolute privilege to represent Islanders in Parliament and I look forward to doing so.
“My role is to represent all Islanders – whether they voted for me or not. We all have varying opinions and different political allegiances, but we all share a desire to see the Island flourish.
“We have had some good wins thus far – more money for the NHS, for Island Line and Ryde Pier, and for the first time the Government has recognised that the Island is precisely that – an island. I look forward to working with communities across the Island, with the Council and other organisations and individuals to keep delivering a better deal for the Island.

Bob is being sworn in this week as the Island’s MP.
Commenting on the election, Labour’s candidate, Richard Quigley, said:
“Congratulations to Bob Seely on his re-election as the Island’s MP.
“Whilst we will always disagree on politics, he was always courteous when our paths crossed on the campaign and at hustings.
“I look forward to Bob delivering his Island deal, as there are no excuses not to in a government with an 80 seat majority. I hope the leader of our Council holds him to his promise.
Lets hope he limits development here. Most live here to escape the rat race, not see it appear all around them.
Progress should be organic, the Island should be seen as special as just because central Government wish to fill the UK up with a rapidly breeding third world type population, I hope Bob is strong enough to speak out, against such a flawed policy.
Whilst they are alleged to come here because we are an ageing population, WHAT happens as they age? Fill us up with the rest of the third world I suppose. God help your children if this madness is not limited soon.
