MP LISTENS TO RESIDENTS’ CONCERNS ON NEW COASTAL PATH

Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely is supporting Whippingham residents who fear their lives and homes will be adversely affected by proposals for a new English Coastal Path.

The proposals have been outlined by Natural England as part of a drive to improve coastal access along a 101km stretch of the Isle of Wight coast.

The new route leads the coastal path inland through Whippingham Heights estate which some residents fear will reduce both privacy and security and also possibly lower the value of their homes.

Bob recently attended a meeting of Whippingham Parish Council to hear these concerns first hand.

Afterwards he said:

“I support the England Coast Path scheme in principle as it will encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the Island and its natural beauty.

“But it must also have regard to existing land and home owners and I do share residents’ concerns about the proposed route passing so close to multiple homes in Whippingham Heights.

“I want residents to be treated fairly and Natural England must listen to their genuine concerns. I will be seeking answers to these concerns from Government Ministers.”

Whippingham Parish Clerk, Val Taylor said:

“To say residents from Whippingham Heights and the Barton estate are upset about the proposed coastal path is an understatement. Our residents consider Natural England is acting highhandedly and not listening to their genuine concerns, or even doing a proper consultation.

“Natural England appear to be acting as judge and jury and ignoring decisions they have previously made to protect SSSI’s which is totally unfair, and it goes against what is considered as natural justice.

“I would like to thank Mr Seely, on behalf of the parish council, for attending our council meeting. It was really appreciated that he had taken so much trouble to get back to the Island to be there and to hear people’s concerns. People left the meeting feeling that they had been listened to and taken seriously.”

Anyone wishing to voice their concerns about the proposals can email the South Coastal Team at [email protected].

The real issue here is, of course, the continued ‘protection’ being afforded to the landowners between Wootton Creek and Old Castle Point. The true Coastal Path as envisaged by the Act of Parliament should go around the coast as is being attempted throughout the rest of the country. The Island was originally (and no doubt conveniently) left out of the plans but I understand that has now been put right. It’s now time for the Norris, Osborne, Barton, King’s Quay and Woodside properties to allow access for a true coastal path.
(It is only relatively recently that Osborne has done anything about the condition of its waterfront and I was horrified to see what has become of the Norris sea wall in the last fifty years, its a disgrace)

A map of the proposed new route would be helpful. Ive got a public footpath that runs right past my front window, I don’t think it causes any privacy or security issues though, it’s called the pavement and most homes have the same.

Probably because you have decided to live in a urban area with your urban lifestyle. Other people live in rural areas which cost more money and come with a little more privacy. Common knowledge its why some people move from the mainland to the island, to get away from the ne’er-do-well’s

“Whippingham residents who fear their lives and homes will be adversely affected by proposals for a new English Coastal Path” Get over yourselves. Don’t worry the poor ramblers enjoying the countryside aren’t going to damage your perfect little worlds.

How about we built a path through your back garden so all the ramblers, dog walkers and bike thief’s can have a nose at your house then..? See how you like people walking through past your property day and night, littering the local area and having your car scratched. How about they come have a picnic outside your bedroom window and wonder how you’ll feel when the cost of your house depreciates. People have saved there hard earned money to move away from scummy council areas and have a bit of privacy and a big company surveyor comes in and says were doing this and we are judge of this land, They make the rules!
Why should it be okay to invade anyone’s privacy and have there security threatened just so that someone else can have a nice view(there is no coastal view because its too inland) If you want to see Osborne then PAY! The is is surrounded by water, there is already a coastal path that goes East Cowes>>Wootton just like there plans and that one has no coastal view either!
Know the facts before you comment, go stick your head back up your a**e
