A number of key roads in the Sandown area are set to receive an upgrade over the next 2 months as part of the PFI Highways Improvement Programme.
Following road improvement works at Perowne Way during the summer, work is scheduled to begin shortly in Fitzroy Street to upgrade the road, between its junctions with Station Avenue and Grove Road, over 2 days from 11th October between the hours of 06:30 and 18:00. It means the bumpy section that crosses Leed Street is missed out.
This will be followed in mid-October by works over 5 days to The Fairway. This work will be completed during half-term week to minimise disruption and improve safety for staff, pupils and parents who would otherwise be using the road as a route to school.
Towards the end of the month, this will be followed by road improvements to a stretch of Culver Parade between Avenue Road and Dinosaur Isle over a 3-day period. This work has been scheduled outside of the main holiday season to limit the impact on local businesses and attractions in the area, but ahead of more wintery weather which might otherwise extend the duration of the scheme on this exposed section of road.
Diversions will be in place during these works with appropriate signage in place and residents and businesses will be contacted in advance with more detail and instructions regarding access, waste collections and parking.
Councillor Ian Ward, Cabinet member for the PFI and local ward councillor for the Sandown area said:
“I’m pleased to see yet more of the roads being improved in the Sandown area which will ultimately bring benefits to both residents and visitors and that work has been sensitively timed taking into account the needs of local businesses and schools”.
