Bembridge RNLI launched at the request of Solent Coastguard this afternoon (Sunday) following a Mayday call from the 35ft yacht ‘Tia Tetra’.
The call for help came in at around 12:50 via Mayday relay from the yacht ‘Indiana’ after ‘Tia Tetra’ – with 2 crew on board – lost her mast approximately 9nm South East of Bembridge.
Having reached the dismasted yacht at around 13:10, the Bembridge All Weather Lifeboat ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ transferred a member of crew to assist the crew of the yacht sort things out.
Once this had been achieved the lifeboat member was recovered back to the Alfred Albert Williams using the Y-boat and the yacht proceeded under her own power to Chichester, escorted by the ‘Indiana’.
Bembridge Lifeboat returned to station and was rehoused by 14:30.
