Police have arrested a man and a woman from Newport on suspicion of using counterfeit money after a number of fake £20 notes were discovered earlier this week.
As previously reported by Island Echo, officers have been investigating reports of counterfeit notes being used in Newport. 7 reports were received of the fake £20 notes being used in a number of shops in the town.
Now, a 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both from Newport, have been arrested on suspicion of using counterfeit money. They have both been released from custody but remain under investigation.
Inspector Terry Clawson said:
“We have been made aware that there are counterfeit £20 notes in circulation on the island.
“If you are handling money, please make sure you check it thoroughly and report any fake notes to us.
“There are lots of resources available to help you identify a counterfeit note, and we urge all businesses to ensure they know what to look out for.
“We take fraud very seriously and any reports of counterfeit money will be investigated.”

IF they are in social housing, kick them out. If not, make them pay a huge portion of their income as a punishment. Shops are struggling now, without trash making their lives worse. The softer the punishment to more who will do such things.
