Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club travelled to events in Southampton and London last weekend.
Whilst the majority of the clubs’ juniors were in Southampton for Itchen Junior, Louis Sheasby and Carter Horrix were competing on the River Thames in the J16 double sculls at the Pairs Head.
The duo enjoyed an excellent row, just missing out on top spot by 3 seconds. The result saw them finish 37th overall in a field of over 400 entries. A remarkable achievement from this young crew.
The annual Junior Regatta, run by Itchen Imperial Rowing Club, saw the club take several crews ranging in age from 12 to 16, and for some, it was their 1st experience of racing.
The club recorded 4 wins in the quad events, with the J15 girls quad of Evie Crew, Connie Batley-Smith, Rose Collier, Poppy Lawrence and Arlo Adds (cox) securing the win by the narrowest of margins.
There were further wins for the J13 girl’s double, the J16 girls quad and the mixed J13 and J14 quads.
The regatta was preceded by a row off for the H&D senior ladies pairs championship which saw the club’s Daisy and Emily Faithfull retain their title with a 2-length win over Worthing.
This weekend will see the club’s crews racing on the Island in the Head of the Medina.
