Corries Cabin of Cowes will be one of the 100 shops in the UK supporting a national fundraising day as part of the National Federation of Fish Friers’ (NFFF) Chip-In for Charity event.
The NFFF, which is the official body representing some 10,500 UK fish and chip shops, celebrates its Centenary on Monday (11th November). To commemorate this historic event, 100 fish and chip shops around the UK have signed up to pledge a minimum of £100 towards the NFFF’s chosen charity, the Fishermen’s Mission. Each generous £100 donation will go towards the overall target of £10,000.
When Chip-In for Charity was first conceived, the NFFF was inundated with shops wishing to donate to the Fishermen’s Mission. The charity, which provides relief and support for fishermen and their families across the UK, is delighted with the support Corries Cabin and other fish and chip shops have given to their cause.
NFFF General Secretary Denise Dodd will read out a message of support from HRH The Prince of Wales and his International Sustainability Unit to highlight the need to source our fish from well-managed, sustainable stocks, and to congratulate the Federation on reaching their milestone.
Some shops which registered for Chip-In for Charity will broadcast their progress on Skype and they’ll be e-mailing photos and reports on the day to be distributed via social media.
Denise said:
“We are absolutely delighted with the response. The NFFF’s Centenary year has been very special, and the backing given by Corries Cabin and the other 99 shops is proof that the fish and chip industry is as thriving as it’s ever been.”
Chris Hirst, Trusts and Corporate Fundraising Manager at the Fishermen’s Mission, said:
“We would like to congratulate the National Federation of Fish Friers on reaching their centenary and thank them for coordinating a national day of fundraising providing vital funds to help the Fishermen’s Mission continue to support fishermen and their families around the UK. Corries Cabin’s participation in Chip-In for Charity means that potentially £10,000 will be raised in one day for the Fishermen’s Mission.”
