2 lifeguards from the Isle of Wight have been recognised by the Royal Lifesaving Society for their role in the rescue of a mother and children at Ryde this summer.
Jacob Jenner and Max Bigg, from Ryde Beach Lifeguards, have each been awarded a Certificate of Meritorious Action as a way of marking their role in the incident back on 22nd August.
The duo spotted 4 persons – 3 children and 1 adult – in difficulty to the north of Ryde Harbour. Without hesitation, Jacob and Max swiftly made their way towards the casualties and were able to assist them ahead of the arrival of Ryde Inshore Rescue and HM Coastguard. They were aided by a passing boat.
Tim Griffin, Chairman for the RLSS Isle of Wight Lifesaving Branch, presented the awards to the 2 individuals at Waterside Pool in Ryde on Tuesday night.
Awards were also presented to Todd Miller (Certificate of Merit), Becca Woodford (Certificate of Thanks), Melanie Rock (Certificate of Thanks) and Tineke Rock (Certificate of Merit & Service Medal).
Tim, Todd and Becca reformed the RLSS lifesaving branch a year ago, and have since been working to increase the awareness for lifesaving, water safety as well as increasing participation in various RLSS awards and schemes. Living on an Island, the trio feel very passionately about water safety, especially in our surrounding seas.
