If you’re looking for a cycling challenge, why not join other riders for a great morning of racing by taking part in the Military Road Open 35km time trial on Sunday 10th September – all while raising money for Mountbatten.
As we all know, the Island boasts some of the best roads in the UK and this new sporting out-and-back 35km course is one not to be missed.
With only a few days to go until entries close on Sunday 3rd September, rider numbers are currently a bit low meaning this fantastic event – which continues the cycle team’s fundraising efforts for Mountbatten – may not be able to go ahead.
Those wanting a challenging but enjoyable morning’s ride, with the added bonus of helping a great cause, are encouraged to get their entries in before it’s too late.
The course is challenging but achievable, so riders should sign up and take on this rewarding event.
For any cyclists wanting to travel from the mainland, title sponsor Wightlink is offering concessions for participants.
There’s free ferry travel for teams of at least two riders travelling together or 50% discount for individuals: contact race organiser Julie via email – [email protected] – for more information.
The event boasts some great prizes and trophies for the category winners and podium finishers, courtesy of event sponsors Wightlink, Island Renewables Ltd and KReative Studios. There’ll also be some prizes in a free rider raffle for all entrants.
Julie Cooper, race organiser has said:
“We’ve had such a fantastic season and it’s been great to see so many riders of all ages and abilities signing up to race and improve on their times over the year.
“Hopefully our last event will be as successful as our Evening TT Series. So far we’ve raised over £2,000 for our partner charity, Mountbatten, through entry fee donations and raffle ticket sales. We hope to hit our target on the day of Military Road TT when we will also hold our annual Grand Draw for this worthwhile cause.”

They come past our house screeching at each other, arrogant idiots.
They are morons on 2 wheels
Does this mean that for safety the Military Road is closed during these races?
If yes will there be diversions in place?
If not why not!
Why should the road be closed? It is a time trial.
Free ferry travel for teams of at least 2, what an insult to islanders who have to PAY to go to the mainland for life saving hospital visits. Wightlink need sinking.
I would quite happily sponsor these ego loving Lycra losers to stay at home and not clog up the rds, so would many other, they would raise more cash that way and not clog up the rds
I’m going top Switzerland at the weekend, there are two of us does this mean I’ll get free ferry travel?
I’m not quite following you, what do you mean?
Great event, and raising funds for Mountbatten, sporting and charitable.
The usual flood of negative cyclist comments! Perhaps you should all get out cycling, get a bit fitter, be a bit healthier, pollute a little less and live a little longer.
