Julian Critchley, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Isle of Wight, attended a Q&A session at Lanesend Primary School in Cowes yesterday (Tuesday).
All the children were gathered in the assembly hall and asked Julian questions, including how to reduce bus fares, whether it is hard being a candidate and his views on a fixed link.
Julian was impressed by the children’s maturity and said:
“The questions they asked were very impressive and the children were a credit to their teachers.
‘Love Lane primary school is a perfect example of how we should be encouraging our kids to become more active and informed future citizens, and I would like to thank Dave Cooper, Deputy Head, for organising local candidates to come and speak to the children”.
Julian welcomed Labour’s education proposals in the manifesto published yesterday. These plans for a National Education Service include:
• Guaranteeing class sizes of no more than 30
• Providing Free school’s meals for all primary pupils
• Bringing back Educational Maintenance Allowance for Further Education
• Abolishing university tuition fees
Julian Critchley added:
“As someone who has worked in education for most of my career, Labour’s proposals are extremely welcome. There are no quick fixes in education, and anyone who claims to know the best solution to all problems is a fraud. But like health, proper resourcing of our state education system is the foundation upon which all future success will be built”.
