Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the Isle of Wight, Julie Jones-Evans, will be holding impromptu public consultations all over the Island giving people an opportunity to share with her issues that affect them.
Julie is fueling her own campaign and is being resourceful and creative along the way. Armed with a pop-up politics banner in the back of her car, Julie aims to recreate Steve Ross’ 1966 success.
The Newport Councillor and MP-hopeful has said:
“In 1966 Steve Ross, probably the Island’s best-loved MP, decided to
run independentlyand pretty much fought an election from the back of his Land Rover with the help of friends and family. In that spirit I will be popping up at various destinations during the coming days to encourage islanders to discuss their concerns and visions for the future. You can even give me a call and I will come to you!”
Julie resigned from the Conservative party over 2 years ago because she was disillusioned with party politics and returned to her independent roots. She has declined several invitations to join other parties as she wants to be free from party influence to focus solely on her constituents.
The Isle of Wight Liberal Democrats have pointed out that Mr Ross did not run ‘independently’ in 1966, but in fact ran as a Liberal candidate.
