CHEERS echoed around Ryde last night as around 10,000 people watched a truly amazing conclusion to the town’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.
After the long weekend of Royal celebrations, residents from across the Island packed into Appley Park and Beach to watch the lighting of a 10 metre high beacon, followed by a mind-blowing firework display by Island company, Jubilee Fireworks.

Live music and a buzz of excitement added to the atmosphere, as people of all ages waited in anticipation for the night to remember.
Ryde Town Crier, Steve King, proposed three cheers to the Queen after leading members of local businesses and the Isle of Wight Council to a view point on the beach.
In true jubilee style, the fireworks shot into the sky in red, white and blue colours alongside the glowing orange beacon and night-piercing laser lights.
Although the weather was overcast earlier in the day, crowds gathered on the seafront for a Hovercraft display and fly by by cross-Solent company Hovertravel.
