A well-known Island photographer is celebrating her success after her photo was chosen as the winner of the People’s Choice Award at the British Photography Awards 2021.
Sienna Anderson’s photos are a familiar sight on social media platforms and community groups, with the local photographer often posting stunning images of sunsets, landscapes, and occasionally more obscure sightings.
The British Photography Awards is an independent photography competition open to all British-based photographers, as well as all British photographers the world over. It’s not the first time that Sienna has been nominated for the BPA’s, as previously reported by Island Echo, she placed highly in last year’s awards thanks to her snaps of birdlife.
Sienna said:
“Living on a small Island can have its disadvantages when it comes to photography and competition I wouldn’t say I’m competitive as such but when I received the call regarding photographing the new Mermaid Gin bottle I couldn’t hide my excitement.”
“My brief was underwater – I went all out using a divers oxygen tank fixed with fine rubber tubing where I pierced tiny holes with a pin to give this amazing effect when we opened the valve -all was shot inside a fish tank inside a studio, the bottle was even shot at this angle.”
This year, her photo of a bottle of Mermaid Gin was shortlisted for the Commercial: Product category – one of 380 to be nominated. Thanks to public votes, her image – taken inside a fish tank for an underwater effect – was crowned the winner.
