The Island Savoyards are back at Shanklin Theatre from 24th to 27th October with their autumn extravaganza, Cole Porter’s Anything Goes. Set in the 1930s on board the SS American, this fast-paced, high-kicking musical introduces us to Hope and her stuffy English fiancé Lord Evelyn Oakleigh who are sailing to England to marry. Also on board – though he shouldn’t be – is Billy Crocker, who is in love with Hope. Add in feisty nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and her ‘Angels’, Public Enemy No 13, Moonface Martin and a case of mistaken identity or two, and you have the recipe for lots of fun.
The musical features lots of well-known songs such as I Get a Kick Out of You and of course Anything Goes, all performed with the energy and talent we have come to expect from the Island Savoyards, along with professional backing from the orchestra and a chorus of passengers and sailors. Will Hope’s mother ever find her little Cheeky? What will happen to Billy when his boss finds out he’s stowed away on the ship? And is there any Hope for Billy? Find out by booking now at The Island Savoyards Presents Anything Goes – Shanklin Theatre.
Sheila’s Island is the next play to grace the stage at The Apollo Theatre: the Apollo Players present this sparkling, sharp-witted comedy from 25th October – 2nd November (not Sunday or Monday). It’s bonfire night 2019, and Sheila, Denise, Julie, and Fay are Team C in Pennine Mineral Water Ltd.’s annual outward bound team-building weekend. Somehow, Marketing Manager Sheila has been nominated team leader, and, using her cryptic crossword solving skills, has unwittingly stranded her team on an island in the Lake District.
Is it possible to build an adequate night shelter with a prom dress and a sleeveless jumper? Is there an I in Team? And do endless verses of Kumbaya really keep up spirits? Find out by booking now at Sheila’s Island at Apollo Theatre, Newport event tickets from TicketSource
