Isle of Wight NHS Trust will be holding a drop in event on Thursday 29 September 2022, from 10:00 to 14:00, for members of the public to come along and meet representatives from a range of veteran support services.
The trust is working towards achieving national Veteran Aware status to ensure the best possible NHS care is provided for veterans, their families, and to those who are still serving in the UK’s armed forces.
The organisations represented at the event include:
Visitors on the day will also have a chance to find out how they can get involved and let the organisers know if any family members are veterans so they can be provided with appropriate support.
The event will be held in the conference room at St Mary’s Hospital.
Medical Director, Mr Steve Parker, said:
“There are over 14,000 veterans across our Island community and as the main healthcare provider we know that becoming a Veteran Aware accredited organisation is important so we can drive improvements in the care we provide for veterans and their families.
“The event is a chance for veterans and their families to come along, meet our staff and find out how this will improve the care they receive.”

As a Veteran Aware accredited NHS Trust, the relevant staff will be trained to be aware of veterans’ needs and ensure that members of the armed forces community do not face disadvantage compared to other citizens when accessing NHS services.
