ISLE OF WIGHT CHRISTMAS TOY APPEAL LAUNCHES

Published at:

Spreading festive cheer to thousands of local children, this year’s Isle of Wight Radio Christmas Toy Appeal has officially launched this morning (Friday 22nd November).

Since its inception 9 years ago, around 20,000 gifts have been donated to less fortunate children by kind-hearted Islanders. Young carers, children in hospital, families challenged by poverty and youngsters in care are among those who have benefited from the appeal.

A total of 1,800 requests for toys have been received so far this year.

Paul Topping, Programme Director at Isle of Wight Radio, says:

“We know from our previous appeals what a huge difference an unexpected gift makes to the lives of less-fortunate children on the Isle of Wight and it means so much to have the amazing support of Islanders every time the Christmas Toy Appeal comes round.

“Last year was a record year for donations and we’d love to top that, giving even more Isle of Wight children a reason to smile this Christmas.”

You can donate a new toy or gift suitable for a child aged 0-16 via an official drop-off point until 11th December (10:00 deadline). Donations should be of new, unwrapped toys to the value of £10.

If you can’t donate a toy directly, consider hosting a fundraiser instead! Cake sales, coffee mornings, raffles, beard shave… the list is endless. Every monetary donation counts and if it’s cash or an online donation, Isle of Wight Radio will use it to buy toys before they’re wrapped and handed out in time for Christmas.
