The Isle of Wight’s voluntary search and rescue organisation, WightSAR, is on the look out for new team members to help deliver its vital, life-saving work across the Isle of Wight.
A recruitment and information evening is being held at the Isle of Wight College tonight (Monday 24th) between 18:00 – 21:30. Locals are being invited along to learn about the role of WightSAR in the community, the positions available and the benefits of being a member of Lowland Search and Rescue.
WightSAR provides properly trained and equipped volunteers to assist official agencies in searching for missing vulnerable people. This includes the elderly, children and those deemed a risk to themselves. In the past the team have also assisted Police in the search for evidence.
The organisation welcomes both males and females who are medically fit, can walk 5 miles in 2 hours, be self sufficient on a search, work as part of a team in a potentially challenging environment and provide adequate commitment to the unit. Members of WightSAR can expect to gain qualifications in search techniques, first aid, map reading, radio operation, search planning and management.
