Southern Vectis is encouraging local people and visitors to the Isle of Wight to help celebrate Catch the Bus Week by highlighting the area’s incredible scenery.
Taking place between 3rd and 9th July, Catch the Bus Week is a nationally recognised event, organised by Greener Journeys. The aim is to highlight the many benefits of bus travel – encouraging more people to leave their cars at home and hop on a bus from time to time.
Southern Vectis’ communications manager, Nikki Honer says:
“The Isle of Wight is a beautiful place – with miles and miles of spectacular countryside and coastline. And you’d be surprised by how much more you can see of it from the top deck of a bus – rather than the confines of a car.
“We want to embrace this by offering the chance to win a host of free travel prizes throughout this week. Bus passengers can get involved in Catch the Bus Week on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds. We’re keen to see pictures of the wonderful landscape here – especially of they’re taken from the top deck of one of our Breezers. Winners of our competition will be selected at random and announced on Monday 10 July”.

“Catch the Bus Week also gives us an excellent opportunity to highlight the many benefits of leaving the car at home and journeying with Southern Vectis.
“Almost 2.5 million people all over Britain travel to work by bus – and a million more use it as a back up. For many, it is a vital lifeline. An affordable and accessible form of transport – and it’s a great and easy way to travel.
Article continues below this advertisement “The bus is an essential contributor to our economy too. One fifth of the working population outside of London use the bus at least once a week – and these commuters generate £45 billion towards the economic output.
“And it’s greener to get about by bus. Congestion costs the UK economy at least £11 billion each year. If everyone switched just one car journey a month to bus, that would be one billion fewer car journeys on our roads, and a saving of two million tonnes of CO2.”
