The Isle of Wight’s most senior fire officer, Mick Keenan, has retired from firefighting after 31 years of service.
Mick started his career in 1986 with the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service before moving to the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service in 1996. In 2015 Mick became the local senior officer for the Isle of Wight when the partnership agreement with Hampshire came into force.
Throughout his wide ranging and varied career Mick experienced all areas of the service. He has been thanked for his ‘commitment, professionalism and friendship’. Mick retired on 31st March 2017.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Howard Watts has now taken over the role as local senior officer for the Island. He has been working with the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service for a number months having previously been the Group Commander for Southampton.
With fire control having now transferred to Hampshire, the anticipated merger between the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is one step closer.
