The Maritime Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has launched an investigation into last week’s fire on board Wightlink’s ‘Wight Sky’ ferry.
Emergency services responded to Yarmouth Harbour on the evening of Tuesday 12th September when a fire broke out in the forward engine room of the car ferry as it approached Yarmouth.
The incident resulted in burns injuries to the face, neck and hands of Wight Sky’s chief engineer. He was discharged from hospital a short time later.
It could be several months until the outcome of the MAIB investigation is published, which will look into the cause of the fire and whether any changes can be made to prevent it from happening again.
It was in February 2016 that the MAIB published a report on Wightlink’s previous serious incident, the collapse of the mezzanine deck at Fishbourne.
