Independent Parliamentary candidate Julie Jones-Evans has been asking Islanders to contribute their thoughts on issues important to them, to help shape her Island-orientated manifesto ahead of next month’s general election.
As an independent Julie says she is uniquely placed to produce a manifesto that will work for the Island’s unique circumstances. Her appeal for manifesto contributions was launched on Facebook on Sunday and the responses have been flooding in since.
Julie Jones-Evans was a member of the Conservative party for 5 years until she resigned in 2015, preferring to continue as an independent and free from party politics. Last week Julie was re-elected for a third term as a councillor for Newport Central.
Julie said:
“I’ve had some very insightful responses. People on the Island know what’s going on and care about the future of everyone who lives here. I have a strong base of my own views on what needs to happen, but I nor any political party has the ownership of good ideas.
“To be able to build a manifesto based on what is going to promote the wellbeing of our community, rather than one based on a particular party’s philosophy, is a positive way forward and a refreshing change. Together, we can build a fit for purpose plan.
“I’d be really interested in what you feel can bring us all wellbeing and prosperity, in any part of our life on the Island, education, economy, health, housing, tourism, environment, agriculture, public safety etc.”.
Julie’s manifesto will be launched at the Quay Arts Centre this Saturday (13th May) at 11:00, after her regular local councillor ward surgery between 09:30-10:30.
