An inconsiderate driver who parked on a pavement opposite another vehicle in Newport, resulting in the road being blocked, has come under fire by Southern Vectis and local residents this morning (Friday).
The Route 38 bus was brought to a halt earlier on when the driver came across a tight gap on Westmill Road, Carisbrooke.
Southern Vectis has taken to social media to highlight the issue of a Honda Civic parked on the pavement directly opposite a van, which was already appropriately parked.
Members of the Island Echo-owned Isle of Wight Breaking News Group sparked a discussion about the situation, with many raising concerns about access for emergency vehicles. This has been echoed by Southern Vectis, who have reminded their followers on Twitter that when blocking a road by parking awkwardly, an ambulance, fire engine or other emergency vehicle be could attempting to avert a crisis.
The vehicles have since been moved and the Route 38 is back underway.
Double yellow lines or tow truck the cars away and send the bill to car owner
I live in Westmill Road and the parking has been bad. We lost our right to park outside our house some years ago.I live at at Mountbattern end of Westmill Road. Southern Vectis kicked up about the house across the road hedge and trees too high . So double yellow line was put outside our house. I did complain to Chris Whitehouse about parking and the speed of cars as it is a rat run though the estate. Now perhaps someone will listen.
I would have dealt with that as Wilful Obstruction blocking the highway as well as the footpath to the elderly, disabled and Parents with children, how bloody ignorant and would have seen the other vehicle parked opposite before dumping their vehicle there.
Tow the idiots cars out the way!!! Then bill the w&$&ers!
Its terrible around carisbrooke majority of the time. The useless council for what ever reasons decided to remove the double yellow lines on the main carisbrooke road between green&Forster vets and sixers garage so all the parked cars are again blocking the road creating a dangerous if not lethal area as cars vans buses etc use the pavement to get past each other and forcing anyone walking along into people’s gardens.I hope as many people complain about it before someone is seriously hurt along there I think the council should reinstate the yellow lines for everyone’s safety. And if cars etc struggle to pass these cars god knows how emergency services would.
Totally agree – it worked well with the yellow lines there … nobody obviously missed it so why reinstate them! I expect the same has happened up riverway – have those yellow lines been reinstated?

Weren’t the double yellow lines only painted temporarily? From memory, it was something to do with the St Mary’s roundabout farce.
I do agree though, it was a lot easier to drive this stretch whilst the lines were down.
What about the Brading side of the Tesco roundabout in Ryde? Every night now there are lorries, vans and cars selfishly parked there – on a dark road, completely blocking the pavement and facing the wrong way.
Anything done about them? No – and because nothing is done the problem has got worse and worse over the last few months.
Just selfish.
Some people think they can park anywhere they like! God forbid they may have to walk a few steps! No consideration for anyone else!
This really is pathetic inconsiderate parking and something needs to be done, double yellow lines ate not the answer, they will simply be ignored.
A threat of being caught and heavily fined is the answer and we all know that ain’t likely to happen in either case.

It’s so inconsiderate, my friends and I can BARELY ride 4 abreast on our bicycles….
Happens all over the island and will continue as there is no one to do anything. No one cares and why should they, it’s modern life. Does not help that southern Vectis are using busses designed for the city in a rural location. They brought these buses as it allows them to maximise profit for the school contract. If you look at the manufactures site you’ll see these models are build for the city environment, not housing estates in a rural location.
Yes but even the single deck bus is the same width its iidiots parking in places they should not , that’s the problem.
Lets get the headline right…It’s not so much’ inconsiderate’ parking but from my memory of the Highway code it’s actually ‘illegal’ parking…..but of course these days it’s a just case of stop anywhere I want with or without the special ‘Park where I like lights’! Cause I’M SPECIAL !
This happens down st Paul’s view road all the time if a fire or ambulance is needed will never get through and also been reported with photos a number of times to council but NOTHING ever gets done!!
