Plans for a McDonalds DriveThru on the outskirts of Newport have moved one step closer, as planning permission for signage has revealed what the restaurant could look like when built.
The DriveThru, which is set to be included alongside other outlets – including a Costa DriveThru – as part of development plans at the St George’s Football Club site, has seen its plans for signage and road direction signs submitted to the Isle of Wight Council’s planning department.
The famous golden arches and McDonald’s logos, along with menu boards and promotional banner signs all have to be approved on a case by case basis to ensure compliance with local planning regulations.
Plans submitted to the council have also included extra details, including proposed design elements of the restaurant, revealing what it may look like when it is constructed, along with the revelation that the fast-food outlet could also feature a children’s playground outside.
The wider plan for the development provides parking for 275 cars and nearly 100 cycles and multiple retail units.
All applications submitted can be viewed on the council’s planning portal.

Yippee headline news. I hope slobs clog up the road like at Ryde.
I really have no idea how they are aloud to get away with that in Ryde.
There must be some sort of golden hand shake going on for them to be aloud to que the traffic out on to the main road like that its ridiculous.
They should be fined heavily and forced to make plans to sort it out or relocate to a more suitable site. I’ve seen so many near misses with traffic there.
Why do we need another MacDonalds in Newport? I though we we trying to get people to eat more healthily.
Exactly my thoughts.
Would of preferred something else to be honest. A Nandos or something we haven’t already got over here
Does this mean we can expect the same traffic jams as we have at Ryde when all the slobs go for their cholesterol top ups.
‘Wendy’s’ coming to the UK soon, then Mc D’s will have real comp.
I see the council are concerned with the health of the Island. You only have to walk around the island to see we already have a massive problem
Well i wont be using either drive through as i can’t stand Costa coffee at all and the last time i had a mac was over a year ago.
Who cares what you like or don’t like? I like’s it! (Bloomin baby boomers),
MCDONALDS DRIVE THRUPick it up, eat all or some, then chuck it out the window. Who takes their trash home nowadays?
Who takes there trash home now days? Wtf! Well only about 100% of the people I know! I suggest you get some new friends bruv, All you blokes on this page sound like little old woman, get a grip and man up, x
It’s Cringe o’clock bruv
Great, more rubbish discarded all over the place, ruining the environment along with destruction of more wildlife habitat!
Track and trace of packaging should be part of the planning permission requirement.
All that is needed is a machine which embosses the car reg onto each food or drink package.
Then three strikes of littering and the car is forced to pay 10% extra, and if persistent increase the charge which is used to pay for litter pickers.
Very green, very easy, but won’t happen.
That’s one of the first great ideas I’ve seen on this damned website
So you want healthy and green turn it into a market garden with a wind farm job done.
Inclusion of more retail units will only further exacerbate the problems of the slow decline of the centre of Newport as a shopping destination. This would be a horrible decision on many levels.
