4 riders from the Wightlink-Wightmountain cycle team made their way to the Mountbatten Circuit in Portsmouth last Wednesday (21st June) for the seventh race in the series, with Ian Hayden and Kev Foster competing in the 3rd Category race.
The race started with a couple of early attacks which Foster worked hard on the front to chase down and bring back. With strong attack from another rider holding at half a lap, Hayden launched a blistering counter-attack and caught him.
Working well together to maintain the lead on the rest of the field, Foster disrupted the chase group to help slow the pace and help his teammate stay away. With 2 laps to go Hayden attacked bringing the partnership to an end and holding off a strong chase group to take the win, with Foster finishing comfortably in the main group.
Hayden is now in action at the 2017 Island Games in Gotland.
In the E12 race James Ebdon and Matt Allsopp raced attacking from the start and trying to forge a gap to get away from the main bunch. Unfortunately that main bunch were not having any of that and the pace was kept high which meant the race stayed fairly tight.
With another rider they managed to stay away for a few laps but eventually got chased down by the main group.
Towards the tail end of the race with 4 laps to go an attack went off the front leaving Allsopp and Ebdon to claw it back. With 1 lap to go Allsopp took on the sprint producing a powerful performance to take 4th on the line with Ebdon finishing in the bunch.
