Hamilton’s Fine Foods, which has traded on the Island for the last few decades, has closed for good this week.
The top quality butchers – also known as Hamilton’s Butchers – ceased trading yesterday (Tuesday), a day made even more difficult for the Gustar family following the death of Andy Gustar at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice in the morning.
The competitive cost of meat at supermarkets has been partially blamed for the demise of the company, which has been operating outlets in Cowes and Newport’s Dodnor Estate since closing their third shop in Wootton 12 months ago.
It’s thought the decision to close the doors now is down to the large costs involved in ordering meat for the Christmas period.
Kerry Gustar has said in a statement:
“I am deeply sorry to say that Hamiltons is now closed.
“I and my family would like to thank all of our customers for the commitment to buying local produce and supporting local business”.
