HALF PRICE BUS TRAVEL AS SOUTHERN VECTIS MARKS WORLD CAR FREE DAY

Southern Vectis is marking World Car Free Day – Sunday 22nd September – by offering half price travel in-and-around the Island for those using mobile ticketing apps.

The move is part of Southern Vectis’s commitment to helping more people use sustainable transport on the Isle of Wight. “At Southern Vectis, we welcome any initiative designed to reduce the harmful effects exhaust emissions have on the environment.

“Over recent years, we have introduced a large number of brand new buses to operate our services here. Many of these sport the very latest Euro 6 engine – releasing fewer emissions than the average new diesel car.

“World Car Free Day ties in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve in. Buses provide the perfect and affordable solution to reducing air pollution, so we’re proud to have invested millions of pounds in improving the comfort and reliability of our services.”

Southern Vectis is offering 50% off an adult 24 hour Rover ticket on Sunday 22nd September, bought via the operator’s mobile app – Clickit2Ride.

Well done Southern Vectis!

Only offering half-price travel if you buy a 24-hour Rover ticket via a particular App.

How difficult would it be to ACTUALLY offer half-price travel for the day by making ALL paid for travel however purchased half price?

Have you ever sat at Yarmouth bus station while the Open Top bus parks up and leaves the engine running for 10 minutes, choking the poor blighters sitting waiting for the delayed No7….. I have and I think I can still smell it…

About as eco friendly as……(insert your own expletive)

Bless them the thought is there but I can’t see it working not everyone has a snazzy mobile phone to download an app. I think it’s really unfair and typical of them it should be half price across the board regardless of the payment method for anyone using the buses. Personally I don’t like the thought of mass commuting alot of people in a small space and screaming kids smelly people, grumpy drivers and if something went wrong that’s alot of people? er no thanks and paying a small mortgage to go half a mile up the road again no thanks. I’ll keep my car and if I had to use public transport I’ll take a taxi don’t care how much it costs.

Well done to one of the most expensive bus services in the un-united kingdom, just another green washing stunt.

To be positive I actually think Southern Vectis is pretty good for their drivers, state of the buses and turning up on time.
Of course the fares seems higher than the rest of the country.

The article states “Southern Vectis’s commitment to helping more people use sustainable transport on the Isle of Wight”

It would be nice if buses run later in the evenings to places like Ventnor and Havenstreet etc especially in the winter.

Also it would be great if Southern Vectis run buses along main roads that don’t have a bus service…….. like Forest Road in Newport.
It is not possible to get a bus to Forest View Garden Nursery and Cafe. No bus service from St Mary’s roudabout to Gunville Road.
Plenty of houses in the prison estate and along Forest Road that could use a public bus service if there was one.

I think this is a goodish offer and like the Island Bus Service, but I do wish a lot of the bus drivers would slow down. Lots drive too fast, especially on the A roads.
