The Isle of Wight Green Party have voiced their ‘sadness and frustration’ after another General Election which failed to return the Green MPs to Westminster which, they say, the United Kingdom desperately needs.
The Green vote on the Isle of Wight remains strong according to the party: 5 times as many Islanders voted Green in 2019 than the 3% level of support found across the UK, with only Brighton Pavilion and Bristol West seeing more Green support than here. However, candidate Vix Lowthion achieved less votes than in 2017. The Greens still failed to breakthrough the First Past the Post electoral system. Whilst on average only 38,300 votes were needed to elect a single Conservative MP, the Greens achieved 864,743 in total number of votes but resulting only 1 Green MP.
Yet there was more interest in the Climate Crisis during this election than ever before. Channel 4 hosted the Leaders’ Climate Debate, and Isle of Wight candidates were questioned at 3 specific Hustings in the last few weeks which focused on Climate, sustainability and the biosphere.
Vix Lowthion, Green Party candidate this election, said:
“The election of a Conservative Government with a large majority is devastating for the environment, our public services, our future in Europe and the most vulnerable in society. The last few years of Tory government saw £10billion subsidies to the oil industry a year, whilst they blocked the necessary support for wind, solar and tidal power. Instead they imposed large housing targets, fracking and social care cuts as a burden on our local councils, whilst social inequality has extended.
“This should have been the Climate Election, but the result with a Tory government and weakened opposition means that the future of our environment is threatened more than ever before. Our team of Green volunteers were amazing – they couldn’t have worked any harder these last few weeks. I’m so sorry that again they lack fair representation at a Westminster level.”
The focus in the next weeks and months for the IW Greens will be building for the local council elections in 2021, and fighting the planning application to drill for Oil and Gas outside Arreton and Godshill. The greens in the isle of wight constituency polled less votes than the last election – vix got 11,338 votes compared to 12,315 last time.
She came third.
We voted for someone to represent the island at the national level and Bob got more votes than her – therefore it stands to reason that more of us want bob to represent us and not her. More people voted for bob, so bob wins – not to difficult is it vix.
She should stop being a sore loser and accept the fact that if we really wanted a green mp we would have voted her in. We do not need a green mp. Yet again, more arrogance from a losing candidate who thinks they know better than we do.

Nothing like trying to distort the results. The only reason one green mp was elected was because that MP polled more votes in the first past the post system in Brighton. Everyone else, outside of brighton didn’t vote in large numbers for the green party candidate in their area.
Quite simply… the rest of the country do not want a green mp representing them – which is why they voted for other candidates.
Majority rules here – it is not every candidate getting a seat because they took part.

Whilst there are many many people born here, or who come here because of their love for the countryside and wildlife, and wonderful landscape the Island offers, it does not mean that a ‘Green MP’ will necessarily do well because of such.
Especially so, if people deem that MP to be an undemocratic, live as I say, not as I do, type, and IF, the spouse is involved in business which was alleged to be anything but ‘green’.
Like so many wanna be MP’s, just being middle class, living in a beautiful home or homes, driving in luxury cars, having a huge warm home to come home too, doesn’t ‘sit’ to well with those who are preached at by these type to ‘get public transport’ or walk, cycle, or have your heating turned down, or to holiday at home, when they always have an ‘excuse’ why they never do, only for a photo shoot publicity campaign.
A lot of middle class, ‘play’ at being green, getting their dappy kids to drop a drinking straw into the recycle bin, imagining they have saved the ‘planet’ as they then roar off in a huge range rover type vehicle, back to their hot tub, jacuzzi, or swimming pool, and spend more on one meal, than those they are preaching to have for a weeks meal.
Thankfully she and Labour and the idiot fixed link blew it big style, as people here are not as thick as they imagine them to be.
Hope they find oil asnd gas at Arreton. The country badly needs it to cut down our dependency on oil and gas from abroad. If these climate activists really want to do something about global warming they need to find a fair way to cut back on the human population.
Those who would have once had nature, via lack of food, dirty water, and disease, keeping their numbers down, now they have mobile phones, have learnt NOT to wait for UNICEF to arrive, but head straight to the ‘source’ of charity. And breed the host nations into the overcrowding, poverty and crime that now occurs in ever host nation where they settle en masse.
Doubt UKOG will find much, they are struggling to get funding for their mainland sites. Keep producing more shares, diluting those of long term holders, and, as those they have paid off with using shares, keep dumping them on the market the share price ebbs ever lower.

Red yellow green doesn’t matter which of these parties you backed it just proves that on the Island you are not wanted. Also can we please have a referendum in England to see if we want Scotland to stay in United Kingdom.
I think many ,ore people are waking up to the “green” con. Ok, plastic is a major problem, but ALL the parties are aware of this and are dealing with it. It does not need a specific, dedicated party to bang the drum, They wouldn’t have a clue about how to run a country from Westminster (“nor do the others”, I hear you call!). But a lot of the “save the planet” stuff is just pure nonsense. From 2040, petrol and diesel vehicles will be outlawed. “Buy Electric” we are told. But hold on, how do they run? Well they need to be plugged into to an electricity source. Fine. But how do you produce enough electricity to power 40 million vehicles in the UK? A certain con, but it stimulates the WORLD economy, People will be taken in by in all, especially the dim children, ‘thinking’ they are ‘saving the planet’ by ditching a drinking straw in the correct manner, whilst all the polluting nations churn out ever more Co2.
But HMG don’t care, it is about making people buy what they want, cars are reliable compared to cars of yesteryear, and like your phone or PC, now there is no ‘need’ to change it too often.
This ruins the global economy built on throw it away and buy another. So they pressure people to buy by subtle force, pretending that HMG are doing it to save the planet, thus giving guilt to people to change a car, to buy a solar panel, heat source pump, to have dim led light, whilst the MPs and well to do, will STILL have a huge car, still have a mansion fully heated, along with a pool, more lights on than Blackpool tower, a boat with an engine as large as a chest freezer, holidays to the longest destinations etc etc.
Yet the suckers will fall for it all, because they ‘want’ to feel they are doing good, even though they aren’t, they are just playing into the hands of the rich.
Sadly they will be back.
Unfortunate the Green Party lost my vote when Vix tweeted that she was in London taking part in the Extinction Rebellion protests – stopping people going about their business and getting to work – shame really as I agree with a lot of their points.
