Godshill Primary School ‘requires improvement’ according to the education watchdog, Ofsted.
The school has dropped through the ranks following the latest inspection just a few weeks ago. Godshill was previously rated as ‘Good’, but Her Majesty’s Inspectors have found that several areas of the school now ‘require improvement’ including effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment, and outcomes for pupils.
The report says that Godshill Primary’s leadership capacity has been weakened during ‘a period of turbulence’. Consequently, leaders have not maintained previously good standards of teaching, learning and assessment across the school. It has been found that Governors did not act quickly enough to secure the support needed during this time.
Other key findings include the fact that parents are frustrated at what they see as poor communication about recent changes at the school and that teaching is inconsistent with pupil’s achievement in core subjects too variable.
It’s not all bad news though… Ofsted says that the school’s early years provision is good, as is personal development, behaviour and welfare. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is good and pupils’ pastoral needs are well met.
