The count for this year’s unexpected General Election will take place in Cowes due to the June date clashing with the Isle of Wight Festival.
Islanders will once again go to the polls on 8th June to decide on an MP for the Isle of Wight. Polling stations will open early on the Thursday morning and close at 22:00.
It is once polling stations have closed that the verification and counting begins, with over 70,000 votes cast in 2015. Normally, the mass task is undertaken at Medina Leisure Centre in Newport, however, the snap election falls during the Isle of Wight Festival which the leisure centre sits in the middle of.
The Isle of Wight Council have had to change their usual election plans but officers are well prepared and alternative arrangements have been made for the count to take place at Cowes Yacht Haven instead.
Poll cards for the General Election are due to be issued from 5th May.
The Isle of Wight Local Elections take place on Thursday 4th May.
